Our story

Poured by hand in Anupgarh

A small studio in Anupgarh, Rajasthan, a bench of twelve fragrances, and nothing poured until somebody asks for it.

Everything here is made by hand. The wax is melted, scented and poured in small batches, the diyas and urlis are finished one at a time, and every piece is looked at by a person before it is wrapped. That is slower than buying candles by the carton. It is also the only reason they are worth buying.

We do not keep stock sitting on a shelf. When your order arrives we pour it, which is why a candle reaches you smelling the way it did on the bench rather than the way it smells after three months in a warehouse.

The name came from what the candles are for: lighting a space, and lifting the evening in it. That is the whole idea, and it is on every box.

lit and bright

Candles that light spaces and brighten souls.

Four views of a pillar candle graded from cream through honey to deep blue, tied around the middle with jute twine and two wooden beads, standing on a speckled ceramic dish on a wooden table.

Pillar candle

Four views of a free-standing candle moulded as a small blue cake with white icing dripping down its sides, topped with blue and white wax roses around a single wick, on cream linen.

Cake candle

Five views of a terracotta diya with a gold-beaded rim, filled with white wax and topped with a peach tulip on a green stem, including the underside of the clay lamp, styled with saffron, marigold and dried rose petals.

Floral diya candle

Four views of a candle moulded as a white daisy with a yellow centre, mounted on a wooden stick, wrapped in white tulle and tied with a gold satin bow, on cream linen.

Candle care

Get your money's worth

  1. 01

Give the first burn 2–3 hours, until the melt pool reaches the edge. Put it out before that and it is likely to tunnel on every burn after.

  2. 02

Trim the wick to about 5mm before every light. Untrimmed wicks smoke, soot the vessel and burn through the wax faster.

  3. 03

Cap it at 4 hours. Longer and the vessel gets hot and the scent flattens out.

  4. 04

Retire the jar at 1cm of wax. Soak in warm water, peel the label, keep the glass.

Questions

Asked often enough to answer here

What wax do you use?+

Natural soy wax, scented throughout rather than on the surface. The blue flower tea light is the exception — that one is poured in beeswax. Where a candle has miniatures set into it, they are embedded in the wax itself.

Which fragrances can I get?+

Twelve: Lavender, Sandalwood, Vanilla, Marigold, Mogra, Strawberry, Fresh lime, Green apple, Lemongrass, Fruit basket, White jasmine, Rose. If you want something that is not on the list, ask — we will tell you honestly whether we can get it.

When will my candle be made?+

After your order reaches us. Nothing is poured in advance and nothing sits waiting on a shelf, which is why we confirm the dispatch date with you on WhatsApp rather than printing a promise here we might not keep.

How long will a candle burn?+

It depends on the size and on how you burn it — a trimmed wick and burns of two to four hours will get you considerably further than long unattended burns. We would rather say that than publish an hour count we have not measured for every piece.

Can you make something to my own brief?+

Yes. Colours, scents, a wedding or a corporate order — tell us what you have in mind on the custom orders page and we will talk it through on WhatsApp. We will say so plainly if something is beyond us.

Is it safe around children, pets or in pregnancy?+

A candle is an open flame, so never leave one unattended and keep it well away from children and pets. Fragrance affects people differently: ventilate the room, and write to us if you would like help choosing a gentler scent.
